MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN

                                      CA Anish Mehta

                                      Chairman, ICAI (DUBAI) Chapter NPIO

Dear Members, readers of Tax & Compliance Journal
When the new managing committee took charge in the month of October 2019, in our first meeting itself we
deliberated upon need to form various focus groups. A year which we are celebrating as #YearOfMembers and
with a specific objective in mind to address our member’s specific needs to gain or share precise knowledge for the
benefits of others, we created 7 focus groups, out of which 5 were based on Industries and 2 were based on subjects.
Each focus group is led by a member of managing committee & dedicated volunteers.

Out of the 7 focus groups, tax and compliance focus group was formed to cater to the learning needs of professionals
who practice international tax or manages tax department in their organisations. As the tax authorities in UAE
are issuing various pronouncements, it became a responsibility of ICAI DUBAI Chapter to cater to
these needs of our members by involving our members.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve

me and I learn” - Benjamin Franklin

In the pre-COVID period, physical meetings were organised by the focus group where facilitators (mostly experts
within our own CA fraternity) were invited to present on hot and pertinent topics in the field of taxation and
compliances. However, in COVID period, we quickly adapted & embraced technology and started
conducting online sessions. All the sessions are very well attended and appreciated. We even did
interactive group discussions in break out rooms over zoom meetings.

The advantage of focus group set up is to provide enough opportunity to ask questions in an interactive setting
and are encouraged to discuss thoughts freely with other participants or facilitators. This journal is yet another
step to pen down the open and free discussions, ideas, solutions, different views and analyse the
issue that can provide a wealth of information for the members on a piece of paper which is compiled
by the coordinator of Tax and Compliance Focus Group and Editor of this journal, CA Manoj Agrawal who has been
supported by other managing committee members and volunteers (in particular CA Malavika Kolera and CA Amit
            Khaitan).

I wish to place on record my sincere thanks to all the team members and I am confident that you will enjoy reading
every piece of this Journal. Happy Reading and Let your #LoveforLearning continues forever.

            Regards,
            CA Anish Mehta
            Chairman, ICAI (Dubai) Chapter NPIO
